I started playing Neopets in February 2003 and right from the start loved all the pets on my various accounts. After two years of really hard work (well, playing games CAN be hard...) and with some help of my brother I was finally able to afford the one pet I had been dreaming about ever since I
started: A Krawk! His name was Calverouk. Yes, you read right: was. Not even a year after that my account was hacked. At the time I had been a Neopets Premium user for quite some time, meaning I was registered with my email, full address and credit card details. This, I assumed, would assure me that I would get my account back but no matter what I did, whom I wrote to and what prove I had. For the record, I even stated all my side accounts so that TNT would KNOW it's really me. Well, to cut a long story short: They didn't.

And so I lost not only my first borns on my main account:
Kamosetao (male brown Lupe), Calverouk (male Electric Krawk), ApolloStarbuck (male Pink Elephante) and IzzyFreckles (female Baby Techo) but numerous other wonderful pets on my side accounts as well since TNT decided to freeze them all: Jay_el_Rey (male Royal Shoyru), Tanneloarn (male Pirate Poogle), Ithazani (male Alien Aisha) and Anija_la_Reina (female Island Cybunny); Sweet_Mutant_o_Mine (male Mutant Meerca), Tut_Anck_Dracoun (male Mutant Scorchio), Athenray (Rainbow Poogle) and Alinaeh (Rainbow Chomby), Lady_of_the_Reeds (Desert Aisha), Xweetillia (Desert Scorchio), Jonitroo (Maraquan Jubjub) and Shekyr (Darigan Gelert). To honour them I've made a little collage of the pictures I've drawn or made of some of them (click the pic to see a bigger version), sort of a small epitaph:

After all this time I still believe that I know the person who did this to me and I used to think she was my friend. Well, I can't change that now although I'm still very angry at myself how I could have so blind as to believe her ongoing lies.
About two days before my account was hacked someone from Neo introduced me to Subeta and so - as a consequence for Neo treating me so bad, haha - I completely fell for Subeta, another virtual pet site where a few things are similar but a huge number of things is different. One is allowed only one account but that account can - with the help of real money or a lot of sP (Subeta Points) be upgraded to hold a maximum of 20 pets. There are almost no games (and the ones there are are somewhere between stupid and ridiculous) but restocking and doing quests to earn sP is pretty easy. For several months I was quite happy there but you know what they say: "The first cut is the deepest". This is not just one of my favourite songs of all time, it's also very true and so I'm back on Neo now.

One of the reasons I didn't wanna start over again on Neo was the prospect of never being able to get back the pets I had or create new ones just like them. I had worked for more than two years to get the pets I had and simply didn't wanna start from scratch again. But my brother bribed me into coming back. He practically sent me bags of neopoints to spend on potions and paint brushes and I couldn't resist, of course. To be honest, I didn't even try. ;) So in several shopping and trading orgies I got myself a Krawk Transmogrification (don't you just love that word???) potion, a Draik Morphin Potion, one Faerie and three (!) Royal Paint Brushes. Later he also gave me the NP to buy a Desert Paint Brush for Cala.

The "old" Neopets looked better in many ways but since they could not be dressed because the poses were too different TNT had to convert them and make them more alike. I for my part hated this conversion; most pets just lost what it was that made them special, esp. my three Royal pets. Ispha, my Draik, is the only pet that - in my opinion - has truly gained from the conversion. For direct comparison, please see the picture entitled "Before/After" on the pets' profiles below.

One thing that wasn't possible for German players for quite a while was something called Neocash. With Neocash one can buy background pictures, clothes and other accessories for one's pets. The price for those trinkets is - for Germans right now - extremely low and so many many people like to staff their pets with items from the Neomall. I for my part LOVE it! Of course I do not buy every new item that is released. But a lot. ;)

  • Most important fact: if the Neopets had not been converted, Calverouka would still be a Royal Krawk in all her beauty. But I just couldn't stand the bald ugly thing and so I was very happy when the Desert Krawks were released. The colour and appearance are just perfect for Cala's personality. She's very happy now. And when she's happy I'm happy. It's as simple as that. ;)
